While Auto-Rx does a spectacluar job of cleaning ring packs and areas that are under forced circulation (oil passages, lifters, and other pressurized components), areas under splash lubrication where the flow/contact is random or variable can take longer than the normal treatment to remove all stains/deposits. Many deposits are not formed from oil in its liquid form, but rather in the form of blow by vapors that either condense on a cooler area, or are baked on if the surface is hot and not cooled by a continuous flow of oil.
Take this head for example. You can see the totally clean areas where Auto-Rx had a high enough frequency of contact. You can also see where it had yet to have enough contact to clean the area to the same level. Auto-Rx cannot clean what it does not come in contact with on a frequent basis. Incidental, and mostly inconsequential, areas could require continued treatments if this cosmetic condition is something you require cleaned. While full treatments may not be necessary, the maintenance dose should eventually manage these difficult areas.
