Transfer Case Leak
Permalink

My Transfer Case on my 02 Land Rover Discovery is leaking at the front a rear shaft o-rings.  My mechaninc said this is very common for LR's.  He said to pull and re-seal the T-case completely is about $750.  Of course better than $3-4K for a new one.  I've had such good luck with Auto-rx in the past was wondering if it might help in this application?  I'd like to get some more life out of it before a complete teardown is needed.

Any Thoughts/Experience?

No experience, but if the unit is due for a fluid change anyway, a couple oz of ARX wold be a cheap way to try and stop the leak. I give it a 50/50 chance of helping stop the leaks in this situation.

I had a T-case seal leak (shaft seal) a couple of years ago on my 2000 Tundra. ARX stopped the leak within a couple of hundred miles. It was completely dry after 1000 miles and hasn't leaked since. Initially I drained the fluid and mixed the 3 ozs of ARX with 1.5 qts 75W-90 Valvoline conventional GL5 and filled the T-case with this mixture. When I drained and filled after 1000 miles I continued to use Valvoline conventional. Good luck.

I'm going to give it a shot. Figure it can't hurt. Need to order some more anyway.

Well, on my way to the mechanic to have my tie rod ends replaced I got rear-ended on the X-way in stop and go traffic at 35mph. Nasty concussion and neck upper back soreness. They are probalby going to Total my Rover. The escape had it's V-6 pushed back toe the firewall. Not sure if I'll get a chance to try this out. But I have 2 new bottles for whatever I end up replacing it with.

Thanks, feeling a little better. Still having some headaches, but improving. Bought an 06 LR3 with 58K. Just started the Auto-rx treatment on the engine today.
