I am 2400 miles into myy rinse. This morning the oil pressure light came on when I started the truck and stayed on. I shut it off and then started again and this time the light did not come on. Arx related or possible issues with the engine? Again, the light did not flicker but stayed on. Dodge 4.7. thanks
Change the oil, IMO. Low oil pressure light means possible no oil pressure. You have gotten enough miles out of this rinse oil. Change oil and filter and rinse some more. These engines are somewhat known for head gasket leaks or head cracks that leak coolant into the oil. This can clog up the oil filter. This may not be your issue but changing the oil is cheap insurance. Rinse another 3000 miles on some new oil and monitor your oil pressure light and oil level.
bmw's right, you've gotten enough out of the rinse oil. Generally speaking though, if you're not hearing the lash adjusters ticking away, it's most likely that the pressure is fine and the sender is fouled. Changing the filter would be a good idea if it wasn't so close to being time to change it anyway...$2-4 .
Thanks for the replies guys. I actually have only 1000 miles on this oil - Castrol GTX (I changed the filter and the oil at 1500 miles). I kind of thought this might have been a sender issue as well, so I went to the dealer and picked one up last week. The oil fiter has to come off to change the sender (space is limited in this area), so I am thinking of just doing an oil change at the same time. The thing is, I really want to put Pennsoil Ultra in there. Is it Ok to do this 2600 miles into my rinse? If the engine is not fully rinsed yet, will Ultra, being a synthetic, mess anything up?
Pennzoil Ultra isn't on the verboten list. The worst thing to happen is that you're completing your rinse phase on a different sump.
Please post back about the sender replacement. I know you're going to change both the filter and the sender at the same time, but it would have been interesting to see if the filter was the reason for the light. Some pressure senders act like a FILTER CLOGGED notification. My 1979 Peugeot 504 diesel acted that way. The 1980 turbo came with both a low oil pressure and a "change filter" light.
it's pretty weird but the light has not come on in almost a week now. I'm still going to change the sender anyway. I'll cut the filter open to see if it's full of gunk.
