I called Amsoil to verify which of their oils are Group III. Could not get a straight answer and it irritated me tremendously. I've been a customer for over 25 years. He said they did not make a Group III ??????? I felt extremely ignorant...
I have several gallons of Amsoil (0-30w) that I can return and swap out for another Amsoil which would save me some "out of pocket expense." Do I get the XL or the OE? I can buy anything off the shelf but it would work out great for me if I could trade the 0-30W in. That way I could buy more from you... lol
AFAIK, Amsoil only makes true synthetic oils from Group IV stock. This is not recommended for the clean and rinse phases. Just pick up a few quarts of the cheapest dino oil at your local auto parts store and use that for the rinse and clean phases.

But I saw where they now make a OE oil that is only good for the manufacturers oil change recommendation. 5000 - 7500 miles. Remember, I really want to trade in my 4 gallons of 0-30W.

Can you share with us how you are coming to that conclusion?
Price. There's no way a small blender like Amsoil is going to be able to sell a competitively priced product with a PAO base stock. The XL line even states that it uses Group III or non-PAO base stocks somewhere in the text.
The XL or OE would be the Amsoil products to use for your Auto-Rx treatments. I would still think that unless your engine had specific needs for a synthetic, that for the clean and rinse phases, some $2.80/quart stuff at WallMart would ultimately be cheaper.
I would just run WallyWorld synthetic and save the Amsoil for when you are done with the Clean and rinse.
Since OE is less money than the XL and still goes up to 12K I assume it's a group III oil. Like I said I'm %99.9 sure.
AMSOIL OE Synthetic Motor Oils help provide better wear control, high- and low-temperature protection and increased fuel economy compared to conventional oils. The oil drain interval recommendations for many of todays vehicles extend well beyond the traditional 3,000-mile interval, some up to 12,000 miles with electronic oil monitoring systems. AMSOIL OE Oils provide excellent protection and performance for the entire length of the original equipment manufacturers recommended drain interval.

Good answer many AMSOIL Dealers are Auto-Rx customers to a man they say better results cleaning with Auto-Rx than go with any AMSOIL Product. Terrific combo.
I'm gonna get Pennzoil Yellow and save the OE. I traded in the 0-30W for 3 cases of OE. How do you feel about the Mann oil filters for the clean and rinse? At less than $3 each, Amsoil "backing" them, how could I go wrong?
Makes me wonder why Amsoil Tech didn't know this? Or better yet, why he didn't tell me?
Johnoh, you are "the" man!
How do you feel about the Mann oil fiters? I was gonna use pure one but I get scared reading about how great they filter and don't want to clog them up during my 2 cleaning and rinsing phases. I got 5 cars to do twice!
Probably because not all group iii oils are alike, and he believes that you would be doing a disservice to amsoil if you lumped their group iii oil along with everyone else's group iii oils. Or maybe he just didn't know. Or maybe their policy is not to discuss it at all - you will note that they avoid using the term group iii in their product descriptions, you cannot browse their website and find it mentioned anywhere (at least I couldn't), and its only when you do a site search that you can find the webpage mentioned in my earlier post, which is a webpage from July 2002.
I would go with any cheap oil filter for use with autorx - with only a 3k oil change interval, you will not get any benefit from a better filter.

Good price and a good filter manufacturer. Filters live on a curve. The EaO line is targeted toward a one year market. Other filters may last that long, but the filter is designed around OEM spec's for holding capacity/filtering efficiency.
So no matter what the claims are on the filtering efficiency, they're not that level at the time you put it on the engine. That's the multipass rating and occurs at the end of life. The nominal is more accurate an indicator of out of the box operation.
It's not an easy concept for most to grasp, but you can basically buy based on your duration of use.
But a Mann filter for $3 will do as good or better than any other filtre for this type of use.
