Some of the Saturn engines have a characteristic consumption profile that's normal. Yours sounds somewhat higher than typical, so we may be able to improve it. Figures of 1200-1500 are not unusual.

First assure that the PCV system is clear, functional, and intact. This is often a source for excess consumption.

Using either a conventional oil, or a synthetic like Pennzoil Platinum add one bottle to a fresh sump.

What you're looking for is a change in consumption, up or down.

If it goes up, another treatment will be required to fully clear the deposits you disrupted. If it goes down to typical norms for this engine, I'd say that you're done.

You can then do the maintenance dosage to keep ring deposits in check or do a treatment annually or bi-annually at your option.

Areas of forced circulation and higher heat will clear first, while areas of splash/incidental oil flow will take longer. Transitional noises may occur with HLA's (hydraulic valve lash adjusters) or anything maintained with oil pressure (chain tensioners, etc). These noises typically occur during the onset of the rinse phase, but may occur at any time. They typically pass quickly. It's due to some passages clearing sooner than others due to varied film thicknesses and varied flow rates.
