1997 Honda Civic is consuming oil
Permalink

Hi,

I just purchased your ARX and am very excited to begin using it! My engine (1997 Honda Civic 1.6L SOHC w/ 60,000 mi) consumes about 1 qt of oil every 2000mi. I purchased ARX to remove sludge and hopefully reduce oil consumption, and increase MPG (25mpg highway)

My question is: As I replace consumed oil should I be adding a proportionate amount of ARX?

I intend on using Castrol GTX 5W30, unless you recommend using another oil.

Your oil choice is perfectly fine for use with Auto-Rx. You have a relatively small oil pan on this unit. Therefore what I would do is add the entire contents of a twelve fluid ounce bottle of Auto-Rx to your fresh oil change. If you need to add a quart of oil at the 2000 mile mark, you will still have a healthy concentration of Auto-Rx still in the system. In your case there would not be any need to add supplemental ARX midstream of the cleaning phase of the application. In essence you will start out with about a 3 fluid ounce per quart ratio and if you add a quart of oil along the way you would still have a minimum of a 2 fluid ounce per quart ratio in the system at completion. That is perfectly acceptable. Use the same oil type for the rinse phase of the application. You may wish to check out the PCV valve on this unit, especially if it is original equipment. Sometimes they can start sticking and cause some oil burning from excessive crankcase pressure.

After finishing the clean and rinse procedure, I would consider running the maintenance dose of Auto-Rx. In your relatively small oil sump capacity, that would be a treat rate of 2 fluid ounces per oil change. One bottle will cover 10 oil changes. This will prevent any future contamination build up and provide extra lubricity to help with mpg. Take a look at the Honda Civic test over on the Auto-Rx site. The maintenance dose was quite effective in getting better engine performance.
