Hi -  I have a 2005 Toyota Sienna with 120,000 miles.  I have changed the oil on time every 5,000 miles.  it is in good shape and has no leaks or oil usage.  I am interested in your AutoRX product to clean any sludge that may have accumulated, but I am curious if using this product could potentially start oil leaks or usage/burning?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It sounds like your car has been very well kept, given that your Toyota 3.0l engine is well known as a sludge producer.  Congratulations on keeping yours in such good shape.

The short answer to your questions is that yes, some oil consumption and some leaking may occur, but each should be short-lived.

The long answer is that during both the cleaning and rinse phases of using autorx, your oil will contain more contaminants than it ever has before, since whatever sludge you do have will be removed from the engine's metal and made to join the oil as it travels around the engine.  Because of this, its possible that this higher contaminant level could cause some increase oil consumption, but just keep an eye on the oil level and top it off as necessary.  This is just to be on the safe side, as on average, a car that consumes no oil right now will not start to consume oil when using autorx.

As for oil leaks, yes there is some chance that you will have a leak over a short period (like 500 to 2000 miles) when using autorx on a car with 120k miles and a good potential of hidden sludge.  Even though through good maintenance you appear to have avoided the problems of other Toyota 3.0l owners, you surely have some amount of sludge in your engine.  Some of this sludge has coated your engine seals and as its removed, those shrunken seals will need a little time to expand and in the meantime you may have a leak.

Please let us know if you have further questions.

The chances of creating a leak are in the range of slim and none. Just follow the recommended oil choice when cleaning, that being a conventional mineral or group III highly refined mineral oil. However for such short oil change intervals for the cleaning and rinse phase, 2500 and 3000 miles respectively, I would opt for the cheaper conventional oil. With 120K on the odometer, we suggest running two basic applications, if your budget allows.
