I have a 2000 Corolla with 200k miles. The engine uses oil at 1qt/400 miles. I am at the 3000 mile mark of my first Auto-RX treatment. I plan to run a second treatment. Do I do this right away, or run the flush cycle first?
I should also mention that my 2000 Corolla is still using 1qt/400 miles, even after the first Auto-RX treatment.
Yes you would run a rinse phase, which is an oil change interval with no ARX added. Before starting treatment number 2. However, if it is a matter of stuck piston rings you should have seen some results at this point. That is unless your PCV valve is stuck, trapping pressure inside the motor from blow by gasses. This might just be forcing an overabundance of oil upward past the ring packs. It would also help force oil past the valve stem seals as well. So I would check the PCV valve out ASAP.
These motors have pistons with very short skirts. As a result the rings are placed very close together. As a result they tend to wear because of the lack of leverage to keep the piston true in the cylinder bores. If the rings are just plain worn out there may be no simple remedy. However, please check out the PCV valve. This has been problematic in many mtors burning oil. The good news is it is a very cheap part.
