For folks who have run the full cleaning and rinse application(s) to safely dissolve sludge formations out of the oiling system, the maintenance dose provides security against new formations of sludge. A simple addition of 3 fluid ounces of Auto-Rx to each oil change will effectively increase the detergent/dispersant capabilities of any host oil. Auto-Rx will also impart a significantly higher level of corrosion resistance on all metal working parts.
Independent tests show that the maintenance dose will help the host oil continue to clean cosmetic areas of the motor where oil flow is not prevalent. This is important because these contaminated non-working mass areas still degrade the host oil during the course of an oil change interval. Sludge in and around non-working points in the motor also trap a large amount of heat in the metal and negatively affect the ability of the host oil to absorb and carry away heat.
The small dose of Auto-Rx in any oil also provides lubricity benefits. Auto-Rx can enhance the extreme pressure capability of the oil film and, more importantly, can aid in providing a more uniform oil film, eliminating any fish eyes or dry spots.
The maintenance dose can be employed in a new car after initial break-in. A new tight motor generates a ton of heat when the frictional sources mate. This would be true for piston rings wearing or breaking in with the cylinder bores, cam lobes with lifters, and all bushings and bearings. There is a high tendency for this extreme heat during break in at the frictional sources to greatly insult the motor oil. As a result, some oxidized oil deposits will form in these areas. Running the maintenance dose will dissolve these oxidized oil deposits. This is important because you want these friction surfaces to be as clean as possible for the life expectancy of the motor, performing at the highest level over the long run.
Lastly, the maintenance dose is a terrific tool for those running extended oil change intervals. In many cases the extended drain can be done with better results or even extended further with the maintenance dose on board. Used oil analysis is always a great tool when determining how many miles you can operate your motor on an oil change. We find that these miles can be extended in many cases with the maintenance dose installed.
Here we have featured three experiences. One is a typical Ford V-6 motor in a Ford Explorer test showing a reduction in wear metals with the maintenance dose installed. The second is a Honda Civic, showing improved motor performance and fuel economy with the maintenance dose installed. And the third test is a testimonial of how the maintenance dose helped continued cleaning on a Saab turbo-assisted motor with photos.
