PCV VALVE And Oil Burning
Permalink

Hi Customer,

One thing that you may want to check out before starting with the Auto-Rx
cleansing is the PCV valve.

Its function is to allow the unburned fuel vapors that pass by the piston
rings to be released back to the intake system for reburn. But more
importantly get the unburned fuel out of the oiling system.
A sticky or stuck closed PCV valve can lead to sludging of the oiling system
and dilution of the oil, lowering viscocity.

Oil burning in general is a result of either stuck piston rings, whereby oil
film control is lost on the cylinder walls. Many times the lower oil control
ring and the intermediate middle compression rings get bound together and as
a result neither can flex and create the necessary squeegee like action on
the cylinder walls. The other case could be some sludging in the overhead
valve train, restricting the drain holes that allow pumped oil to gravity
feed back down to the oil pan for recirculation. When this happens oil
literally floods up under the valve cover and can get sucked right out the
PCV valve and into the fuel air intake system.

I guess the good news is a PCV valve is a cheap part and easily replaced if
need be. ( best to replace with OEM Unit)

I hope this information is useful. Any questions please reply.

Best Regards

Rich
